Kelendria Trene Rowland (born February 11, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and TV personality. Rowland rose to fame in the late 1990s as the second lead singer of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. During their hiatus, Rowland released her debut solo album Simply Deep (2002), which reached number-one in UK, the number-three on the US R&B Chart, and sold 2.5 million copies worldwide, certified internationally with seven Gold disc, included in the US, and a Platinum certified in Britain. The album produced four top-twenty singles in the United Kingdom, three of which ranked in the top-five, as the worldwide Multiplatinum number-one single 'Dilemma' with Nelly, the international hits 'Stole' and 'Can't Nobody', and the Maid in Manhattan 's soundtrack 'Train on a Track'. Rowland also moved into acting, with guest appearances on television such as the recurring roles of Carly in The Hughleys, Tammy Hamilton in Girlfriends and Leah Walker in Empire. She has starring roles in the successful films Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and The Seat Filler (2005).
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005, she duets with Trina in the US Gold single 'Here We Go', and released her second album Ms. Kelly (2007), which reached the top-ten in Billboard, the number-two on the R&B American Chart, and sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide. It included the international hits 'Like This', 'Work' and 'Daylight'. In 2009, Rowland served as a host on the first season of The Fashion Show, and was featured on David Guetta's worldwide Multiplatinum number-one dance hit 'When Love Takes Over'. The song's global success influenced Rowland to explore dance music on her third album Here I Am (2011), which reached the US top-three, the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums number-one, and the UK Silver certified. It spawned the international top-ten hit 'Commander', the Double-Platinum US R&B/Hip-Hop number-one 'Motivation', and the British top-ten singles 'Down for Whatever' and 'What a Feeling' with Alex Gaudino. Several her international collaborations, as 'Breathe Gentle' with Tiziano Ferro and 'Invincible' with Tinie Tempah have gained considerable commercial success in Europe. In 2011, she returned to television as a judge on the eighth season of The X Factor UK, and in 2013, became a judge on the third and final season of The X Factor USA. Following the release of Rowland's fourth album Talk a Good Game, which reached the top-five in the US and produced the Gold single 'Kisses Down Low' (2013), and the European hits 'One Life' with Madcon, she married her manager, Tim Weatherspoon, and gave birth to their son, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, in 2014. Since then, Rowland has continued her television career by hosting Chasing Destiny in 2016 and becoming a coach on The Voice Australia in 2017.
Throughout her career, Rowland has sold over 40 million records as a solo artist, of which over five million albums and thirtyfive million singles and collaborations, and a further 68 million records with Destiny's Child, for a total of over 100 million records sold since 1997 to date. Her work has earned her several awards and nominations, including four Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and two Soul Train Music Awards. Rowland has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with Destiny's Child, and as a solo artist she has been honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Essence for her contributions to music. In 2014, Fuse ranked Rowland in their '100 Most Award-Winning Artists' list at number 20.
